Acquapendente owes its name to the fact that it is located near several small waterfalls that flow into the Paglia river. It is assumed that in the area where the village is located today, there was an Etruscan centre inhabited later by the Romans, and then invaded and destroyed by the Lombards. The artistic, archaeological and historical heritage of Acquapendente, despite the small size of the mediaeval village, is rich and interesting to visit. The village’s best known religious building is the Cathedral of the Holy Sepulchre. Not to be missed is one of the best-known traditional festivals in Latium: the 'Pugnaloni’ festival (on the third Sunday of May). It’s a popular festival of great visual impact that attracts many tourists every year.
