Barbarano Romano
The village of Barbarano Romano is situated on a tufa plateau within the Marturanum Regional Natural Park at an altitude of 340 metres. Certain information on its settlement dates back to mediaeval times. The historical centre is characterised by three parallel streets and a triple wall. Its historical heritage is well expressed in churches of medieval origin such as the Church of the Crucifix, probably built between the 12th
and 13th centuries. From Porta Romana, visitors can descend along an impressive path to discover the gorge of the Biedano stream, a deep canyon with lush vegetation and rich fauna. Starting from the village, one can also reach the Necropolis of San Giuliano, a ghost town immersed in a natural setting that seems to be suspended in timeless mystery.
